Effects Of Screen Time On Skin And Energy

There is a lot of research and talk about the effects of screen time on our mental health and productivity. But did you know that screen time can also take a toll on our skin and energy levels? In this post I am sharing skincare and lifestyle fixes that will help lessen the effects of screen time on our skin and energy levels.

Over the past year the world has gone virtual. Simply put, more screen time = more visible signs of stress on our skin eyes and bodies.

According to Forbes magazine people living in North America are spending on average 12 hours a day looking at a screen : How Much Time North Americans Spend In Font Of A Screen

It’s time to start tech proofing our beauty routines and lifestyles. Enjoy my top tips and products recommendations.

1 – Wrinkles around the eyes:

Our eyes are straining more than ever which leads to fine lines and wrinkles around our delicate eye area.

Beauty Fix:

Use a retinol rich eye cream to hydrate and smooth fine lines and wrinkles caused by squinting and staring at a screen.

2- Tech neck:

Tech neck is known as the act of stressing the muscles in our neck while looking at phones, tablets and computers. Which is causing our necks to lose muscle tone and enhance the appearance of jowls.

Beauty Fix:

Use the ancient techniques of Gua Sha massage to firm and sculpt the skin on our neck and jaw lines. Gua Sha is amazing for our skin but is also relaxing and relieves tension in the jaw. You must use a beauty oil when you Gua Sha so that the stone can glide along the skin.

3- Blue light Damage:

The light rays omitted by our screens cause free radical damage to our cells which lead to uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation.

Night Time Beauty Fix:

Use a Lactic Acid resurfacing serum at night to gently exfoliate and resurface your skin, pair it with an antioxidant rich serum in the morning.

Product Recommendation:

Use an Antioxidant Rich Serum before applying your moisturizer in the morning.

Product Recommendation:

Skinceuticals C E Ferulic Daily Antioxidant – C E Ferulic is a revolutionary vitamin C serum that neutralizes damaging free radicals (free radicals are environmental aggressors that damage or skin. Pollution, blue light radiation, smog, sun etc..) while improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

C E Ferulic is the gold standard when it comes to antioxidants. It’s one of the most effective skincare products I have ever used.

SkinCeuticals makes advanced skincare backed by science, loved by dermatologists, but accessible enough that they can be used at home, and their mission is to nourish your skin to be the healthiest it can be. Each powerful product is backed by years of research and proven to deliver results.

4- Lack of energy:

Sitting in one spot for prolonged periods of time can make us feel sluggish and lacking in energy.

Beauty Fix:

Set an alarm to remind yourself to get up stretch and take a lunch break. I personally have found myself glued to my screen all day, instead of taking a lunch break I end up grabbing a salty bag of chips which isn’t good for my skin or my energy levels.

Now I set an alarm, I get up and stretch and I make sure I eat a lunch that fills me up. This helps me avoid a mid afternoon energy crash!

Lunchtime Recommendation:

Take a lunch break with Tims! I am a huge fan of the Tim Hortons craveable sandwiches. I walk over to my local Tims and grab a delicious filling craveable sandwich.

Tim Hortons has just launched two new irresistible Craveables sandwiches, that are the perfect  lunch break meal!

Refresh and recharge over lunch with Tims new Craveables: BBQ Pulled Pork (made with crispy onions, cheddar cheese and pulled pork in a bold BBQ sauce) and Buffalo Chicken Ranch (made with a toasted bun, lettuce, tomato, breaded chicken strips and creamy buffalo and ranch sauces).

If you have time, walk over to your local Tim Hortons to pick up your lunch. This allows us to move our bodies and get a healthy dose of vitamin D on our break. If you are on a time crunch you can order your Tim Hortons lunch directly from their mobile app.

Thanks for stopping what you were doing and dropping by!
